Vigile pour le 8e anniversaire de l’assassinat de Fredy Villanueva / Vigil for the 8th anniversary of the assassination of Fredy Villanueva

[ENGLISH WILL FOLLOW]

On August 9 2008, Fredy Villanueva, 18, fell under the bullets of a crazed gunman wearing the uniform of the Montreal police.

Once again, this year the Villanueva family and supporters will gather at the scene to commemorate the painful circumstances in which the young man, who had a lifetime ahead of him, was shot to death by the police.

Eight years later, justice for Fredy Villanueva’s death still seems far away for his relatives as criminal and civil proceedings continues to get bogged down in the quicksand of the Quebec legal system that is well known for his legendary procrastination.

In addition to this aberrant police impunity is the Montreal North borough head-in-the-sand policy, which stubbornly refuse to make room for Fredy Villanueva on the centennial’s mural as municipal leaders have yet decided to authorize its making on the precise spot where took place this tragedy occurred that marked not only local history but also that of Quebec.

That’s why all those sympathetic to the cause of the Villanueva family are invited to join the vigil commemorating this sad anniversary.
